Welcome to the Journal!

My fingers were warm from typing and scrolling and clicking all morning. I clasped my cup of coffee. Wisps of steam fogged up my glasses. I snuggled further under my fleece blanket. And I stared at my laptop screen. I had just put the finishing touches on my official business website. Rachel Marie Photography was about to go live, and I wanted a moment to reflect on the past five months.

One year ago, if someone had told me that I would be an entrepreneur with clients I love working with, I would have called them a silly goose. Becoming a photographer was not even on my radar this time last year. It was just this summer that my motivational sister told me I should go for it! I had just bought my first pro camera and
was taking a lot of pictures of my two beautiful nieces. And while I loved taking their photos, I wanted to get better! I discovered a husband and wife photography team who were also educators, and I took a number of classes from them (hip hip hooray for Amy & Jordan!).

After learning more about my camera and starting to photograph people outside of my relatives, I fell in love with the idea of capturing special moments for couples and families!

Seeing my location scouts transform into couple and family sessions was so exhilarating!
And I did not want to stop. On each and every session I have been blessed to capture, I learn something new about photography and myself. Through this learning process, I began developing ideas how I want Rachel Marie Photography to be different than other photography businesses.

The only exposure I had with photographers was with my senior portrait photographer. She wore all black, placed me in unflattering poses and then starting snapping away on her camera. I had a cheesy camera smile the entire time and my cheeks hurt (not in a good way) by the end of the session. And that was it. Not really an experience that I enjoyed. I want RM Photography to be different! When my clients book with me, I strive to provide a memorable, joyful, and genuine experience! My clients receive a number of resources before we even arrive on the session.

My Style Guide is sent out ahead of time, to help guide client into choosing outfits that flatter their body types and will photograph beautifully on camera. Clients can request location suggestions and I stay in touch throughout the entire booking process. I will typically start following my clients on their social media accounts, so we can get to know each other before we even meet in person! My silly side usually comes out during sessions to get those genuine giggles from everyone. I really want my clients to enjoy their session because I know you are making an investment!

So, past clients of 2017-thank you for taking a chance with me and my new business! I have enjoyed every moment with each of you and look forward to capturing moments for you and your families in 2018 as well! To the couples and families reading this little journal post of mine, I would love to chat with you! Tell me about what exciting events and moments are happening in your lives right now. I wold love the honor to capture them. I truly cannot wait to meet you!

Rachel Marie
