One laughter-filled moment in time. Caught on camera. Placed in a wooden frame. Hung above the mantel. Cherished for years to come by friends, children, grandchildren. Standing the test of time. Forever putting happy memories on repeat for years to come. These naturally joyful moments can never happen when we strive for perfection over intentionally living in the moment. Our lives are busy. We are constantly on the move, on to the next thing, looking forward. My goal for 2018 includes being more present. Being mindful. And more intentional.
Being mindful of the moment can be challenging. Especially during a photographer session. One of the most common problems I see unfold with a client session (especially a family session with young kiddos), is that parents are so focused on having a ‘perfect’ session that they do not have fun with their sons and daughters! The entire reason I am there, as your photographer, is to capture your genuine, joyful moments with your family. I know Moms, especially, are typically on the other side of the camera taking the pictures. Let me capture you alongside your hubby and children! A session with me allows me the honor to capture you being your silly, goofy selves with your kiddos! I will gently instruct you into poses that not only flatter you, but also allow you to have silly moments with your loved ones.
I urge you to take a moment and live as presently as you are able. The photos that I love the most happen when that camera awareness seems to disappear. When a couple stare into each other’s eyes for a split second longer than they have in a few months. And that spark flies. When a new dad smiles at his baby girl’s sweet little face, thinking about who she is going to become. And he cannot help but let out a joyous laugh. A 3 year old twirling in her pink princess dress with arms flying wide. Let us all strive for that genuine love of life! And leave those ‘say cheese’ photos in the past!
Memories captured, moments remembered, moments cherished.
